There have been so many changes in Mason since the summer. He has started putting 2 words together, trying to count, throwing temper tantrums and too many other marvelous revelations to mention. He is such a joy to be around. We laugh together every single day.
Potty training is getting closer. He tells me when he has already gone and wants me to change him now. About a month ago we tried putting training pants on him and setting him on the potty chair, but he just wasn’t interested and cried because he didn’t want to sit there. The only way I can get him to sit on it right now is to give him a few mini m&m’s and reading a book. So, slowly but surely, we will get there. I know persistence is the answer. Yesterday he told me he had gone, I changed him. Ten minutes later he told me again that he had gone and sure enough I changed him again. Then, ten minutes later he told me he had gone again and took his own diaper off and wouldn’t let me put a regular diaper on him. He saw the “pull up” and “insisted” that was what he wanted. It was too funny. He definitely has his “own ideas”!!
He understands so much!! I love it when he’s been praised for doing something good and he swings his arms back and forth and says, “Alright!”. You can tell that he’s sooo proud of himself. He makes me happy.
We’ve been “practicing” trick or treating for the last three weeks. I can not wait to see what he does in reality. I bought a Sesame Street book a while back that plays sounds. It has a doorbell sound that he presses and then we shout, “trick or treat!” We also practiced on the front door. I knocked and opened the door and shouted, “trick or treat!” He thought it was fun, so he tried it. Hopefully he won’t try to open people’s doors! I think it will be tons of fun to watch my Bug in his dracula costume!!
Mason has a love/hate relationship with feeling scared. We laughed so hard this week playing “scare me!” He loves for me to chase him around the island in the kitchen and surprise him when he stops. Of course Phoebe has to get in it too! He thinks thats hillarious. He is really saying her name to where you understand what he says.
His other favorite words are “ouch”, “more”, “momma”, “trash” and “poo-poo”. He also says some things I can’t quite understand, but we finally get it eventually. The above words are very understandable. I’m sure there are more I’m just not thinking of right now.
He is also fancinated with bugs. When he sees a dead bug on the porch, he very quickly points it out as well as the live ones. He won’t pick them up though. He tries to say “spider”. You can understand what he’s trying to say, but it’s not real clear until you see it. I laughed at him because he found a dead grasshopper leg, wasn’t sure what it was until he brought it to me. Then he was flabbergasted that he had actually “touched” it. The look on his face was priceless.
Chasity started counting the stairs when they arrive and leave the house. He’s been learning very quickly but will usually start at “2″. I started counting other things as well and can’t get him to say the number “1″. When we went to Taylor the other day I caught him counting his fingers! He is so smart. He’s catching on very quickly.
He loves to turn the light switch off and on in the bathroom and also see what is in the drawer. I let him look through and we try to say all of the items that he finds. He has learned to use the potty chair as a stepping stool to get into what he wants to see. I had my toes painted a bright orange for Halloween and he saw the nail polish and insisted that I paint his toes. Uh oh! I thought his mom would not appreciate bright orange toes so we got a more subtle color. He thought that was just fantastic. I figured I wouldn’t damage him too much at this age. But after mom sees the picture of him in my jewlery and headband, I might be in trouble. Not to mention him seeing the picture if it turns up at his senior graduation!
It’s been too long since I’ve posted a blog and will try to keep up better than I have been. Until next time…
